DC's SNOWMAGGEDON - To SUM it all up!!

The record snowfall that hit the Washington, D.C., area in the past week created havoc for the federal government, the District government, and probably all metropolitan area residents. With two near-blizzards dumping three feet of snow on a region that normally gets 15 inches of snow in an entire season, even the hardiest residents knew that they would be snowbound for days. Schools closed for a week and the federal government shut down for three and a half days, costing an estimated $350 million in lost productivity, according the Office of Personal Management. To make matters worse, the Washington Area Metropolitan Transit system was twice forced to halt above ground transportation, both bus and rail. People who made it into work on Friday were stuck in five-hour traffic jams that normally would take less than an hour to complete.

However, you describe it, the last week in the nation's capital was a HOT mess!

Here we SNOW again!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Can you believe that the DC Metro Area has received ANOTHER 10.8" of Snow? And that snow came with Thunder! Which now makes this the MOST Snow this area has received in February in over 100 YEARS! The National Weather Service declared a 24-hour blizzard warning for the Washington-Baltimore region. The usually traffic-heavy roads of the capital were deserted, while the city's famous sites and monuments were covered with snow. Check out this picture below... there are FIVE cars parked on the street in this shot...but you can only see the two SUVs! WOW!

Here comes the "BIG SNOW" Fo' Sho'

Beginning Friday, February 5th, the Washington Metro Area began getting snow...and LOTS of it! More than 2 feet of snow recorded in parts of the area. Here is hubby getting a headstart on shoveling, while it was still snowing.

This was the worst snowstorm to hit the Washington, DC area in over 90 years! Look at the mess it left behind and it won't be gone for days -- or weeks -- or MONTH! Here's our little Penguin out in the record breaking snow!

Arnold's artistic eye caught this Beautiful shot! Holy Snow Cat! LOL!According to the news two local airports received the following amounts of this wintry white stuff:
"Washington Reagan National Airport received 17.8 inches of snow"
"Thurgood Marshall BWI Airport received 26.5 inches of snow"...which meant planes weren't flying, Amtrak trains weren't running AND Metro above ground trains or buses were suspended as well. All of the regions schools and the Federal Government were CLOSED. In other words, the Nations Capital and surrounding areas was SHUT DOWN!

The local news also reported that the weight of the snow along with heavy winds caused a lot of power outages across the region. So now image those poor people who were snowed-in AND didn't have any Power OR Heat!!!
